Specific Responsibilities Would Include:

The Director of Wholesale Planning is responsible for the development, and implementation of financial and inventory planning processes for Joe’s Premium denim. In this highly collaborative and analytical role, the Director will lead a team of planners in driving key metrics including sales, margin, and inventory turn across both current and future seasons. This position partners closely with the VP of Planning, Sales, Merchandising, Production and Finance to deliver financial targets and enable data-informed decision-making.

The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking leader with a strong foundation in wholesale planning, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to balance big-picture thinking with hands-on execution.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Sales, Margin & Inventory Planning

  • Lead the creation and execution of 12-month financial plans in collaboration with Sales, incorporating account-level forecasts and sales insights.
  • Manage ongoing forecast accuracy through monthly performance reviews and dynamic re-projections.
  • Maintain visibility into variances vs. budget/prior year and provide detailed explanations and action plans.
  • Ensure strong alignment between sales projections, buy levels, and inventory availability at all checkpoints.
  • Monitor and optimize inventory flows (OTB), address supply risks, and manage excess inventory through proactive strategies with Production and Sales.

Account Planning & Performance Analytics

  • Lead the planning team in preparing and analyzing weekly sales, margin, and inventory reports across key accounts.
  • Partner closely with Sales to develop, influence, and track open-to-buy (OTB) by category and account.
  • Present clear, concise reporting and business insights to senior leadership, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Support go-to-market strategies with order volume, assortment targets, and promotional recommendations.

Demand Forecasting & Process Development

  • Build scalable reporting tools for in-season performance analysis, hind-sighting, and future planning.
  • Drive the development of pre-season planning strategies and in-season lifecycle management.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment on inventory strategies, ensuring demand and supply sync across business units.
  • Analyze key business drivers and trends to inform inventory and investment decisions.
  • Create and deliver Ad Hoc reports and deep dives as needed to support business decision-making. 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Manage and mentor a team of two direct reports; set goals, provide coaching, and support development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and high performance across Planning and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide clear direction and feedback to align team output with overall business strategy.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization, gaining trust and alignment with Division Heads and business partners.

Our Best Fit Candidate Would Have:

  • 7-10 years of experience in wholesale planning or merchandise/financial planning; apparel industry experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of margin planning, inventory management, and retail math.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and achieving financial targets.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor a planning team and collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, capable of delivering complex ideas in a clear, compelling way.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and ability to drive decision-making from data insights.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and planning systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Blue Yonder, or similar BI tools).

Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000
